A deckhand position aboard a yacht requires energetic professionals responsible for all aspects of maintenance and assisting the captain in safely managing the vessel throughout its travels. Are you ready for the challenge?

As a deckhand you are responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the exterior of the luxury yacht. The deckhand's responsibility includes everything outside, on top of, and underneath the vessel. Specifically including painting, stripping, varnishing, waxing, awlgrip, cleaning engines, and maintaining the various toys aboard, which include jet skis, tenders, etc. All deckhands pitch in and assist with interior cleaning and service when guests are aboard.

Entry Level Deckhand:

  • Service background
  • Some working background, longevity a plus
  • Professional appearance
  • STCW 95 preferred

Mid-level Deckhand:

  • All of the above
  • STCW 95
  • Basic seamanship
  • Pleasure boating
  • Exterior maintenance, varnish, paint, products, etc.
  • Mechanical skills
  • Tender operations
  • Experience as yacht deckhand
  • New MCA rules coming into effect may require the Yacht Rating Certificate

Lead Deckhand:

  • All of the above
  • More experience as a career deckhand
  • Navigation
  • Watch standing skills

Bosun Jobs:

The leader of the deck team. This yacht deckhand is a step between the Lead Deckhand and Mate positions.
